Software Engineer, Quantum Control

Job Description

Job Title: Software Engineer, Quantum Control. Location: Los Angeles, CA, USA; San Francisco, CA, USA

You will work with a team of engineers, researchers, & product designers to develop high-performance control systems that improve quantum circuit performance and accelerate the path to quantum advantage; This role combines software engineering, research collaboration, and real-world quantum system integration.

Duties:

  • Develop and maintain software for Q-CTRL’s error suppression and control products.
  • Support integration of the Fire Opal system with external customer platforms;
  • Implement and test control and error mitigation techniques designed with research scientists.
  • Review and address code submissions and provide feedback through pull requests;
  • Build monitoring, benchmarking, and experimentation tools to improve performance.
  • Collaborate across engineering, research, and product teams to deliver production-grade software.
  • Perform additional tasks aligned with your skills and training as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Physics, or a related STEM field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional software development experience.
  • Strong background in Python, Rust, or C++;
  • Experience collaborating with research and engineering teams;
  • Understanding of quantum systems, experimental physics, or computational mathematics is a plus.
  • Experience designing or integrating software for hardware interfaces is desirable.
  • Graduate degree preferred but not required.

Benefits and Instructions:

  • Base salary range: $115,000 to $170,000, depending on skills, experience, and location.
