Superconducting IC Designer II

Job Description

Job Title: Superconducting IC Designer II. Location: Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada

Responsibilities:

  • Create layouts for superconducting integrated circuits used in quantum processors
  • Design and optimize superconducting devices, including Josephson junctions, qubits, SQUIDs, SFQ gates, QFPs, and resonators
  • Develop and improve processor performance through device modeling and parametric design
  • Identify and enhance capabilities within the electronic design automation (EDA) toolchain
  • Evaluate the effects of packaging, I/O, electronics, and cryogenic environments on processor performance
  • Verify IC designs for correctness, reliability, and manufacturability;
  • Create documentation and communicate design decisions with cross-functional teams
  • Use analytical and numerical simulations to model superconducting devices
  • Work with custom software infrastructure for IC design workflows
  • Debug complex technical issues and contribute to hardware development projects

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or graduate degree in Electronic Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Graduate degree with 0 to 2 years of relevant experience, or Bachelor's degree with 2 to 4 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with IC design, including analog, quantum, or RF circuit design
  • Strong understanding of applied electromagnetic theory;
  • Strong programming skills and experience collaborating on shared codebases
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

Preferred:

  • Experience with superconducting devices or other advanced IC technologies
  • Knowledge of qubit design or qubit control systems
  • Experience developing or customizing EDA software
  • Experience with RF and microwave IC design;
  • Knowledge of quantum-mechanical modeling for superconducting devices
  • Experience with tools such as Ansys EDA, Keysight ADS, Cadence, COMSOL, WRspice, or similar software
  • Understanding of IC verification tools and EDA workflow algorithms
  • Programming experience with Python, Common Lisp, or Cadence SKILL
