Job Description

Job Title: Advanced Integrated Photonics Designer. Location: Broomfield, CO, USA; Albuquerque, NM, USA

This position requires expertise in photonics design, fabrication, and testing, supporting the company’s mission to scale practical quantum computing solutions.

Duties:

  • Design, layout, and develop integrated photonic components to meet challenging specifications.
  • Translate technical requirements into actionable plans and ensure system performance aligns with goals.
  • Use photonic simulation tools such as Lumerical, RSoft, or FDTD solvers for component and system analysis.
  • Work with layout tools such as Klayout or GDSFactory to create precise photonic designs;
  • Maintain and operate optical, opto-mechanical, or photonic systems for experiments and product development.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams including physics, architecture, fabrication, and mechanical engineering.
  • Test, analyze, and interpret data from photonic experiments, supporting continuous improvement;
  • Contribute to design-for-manufacturing practices and photonics fabrication processes.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Optics, Physics, Applied Physics, or a related field (Ph.D. preferred).
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience designing PICs using photonic simulation and layout tools;
  • At least 2 years’ experience maintaining and using optical, opto-mechanical, or photonic systems.
  • Programming experience in Python, Matlab, or C;
  • Knowledge of photonics fabrication processes, materials used in visible photonics, and metrology.
  • Ability to work in U.S. with clearance for safety-sensitive positions; not a national of China or Russia unless also a U.S. citizen.
  • Strong understanding of optical principles and their application to design and testing.
