Job Description
Job Title: Cryogenic Engineer. Location: Delft, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands
Job Type: Full-time (Hybrid, 3 days per week in office)
Responsibilities:
- Lead upgrade programs for dilution refrigerators, cryostats, and cryogenic systems across multiple laboratories
- Coordinate with cryomechanics, electrical, packaging, systems, and facilities teams to deliver upgrades on schedule
- Standardize upgrade procedures and document best practices for repeatable deployments;
- Manage the complete lifecycle of cryogenic systems, including maintenance, health monitoring, and performance optimization
- Develop and execute preventive maintenance strategies for pumps, vacuum systems, wiring, and thermal interfaces
- Troubleshoot complex issues involving vacuum integrity, thermal stability, gas handling systems, and wiring faults
- Improve system uptime by identifying root causes and implementing long-term solutions;
- Support global laboratory operations and maintain consistent engineering standards across multiple sites
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for installation, operation, and maintenance
- Coordinate spare parts, vendor services, logistics, and laboratory readiness for upgrades
- Support laboratory expansion, system deployment, commissioning, and facility integration
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Cryogenics, or a related field
- Experience working in experimental hardware environments
- Expertise in vacuum systems, plumbing, leak detection, or cryogenic system troubleshooting and failure analysis
- Ability to meet Microsoft security screening and export control requirements;
- Ability to work in an AI-first engineering environment and use AI tools to improve hardware development and engineering efficiency
Preferred:
- Experience operating, maintaining, or upgrading dilution refrigerators and cryostats
- Experience supporting multi-site laboratory operations or global engineering infrastructure
- Familiarity with quantum hardware integration, including RF chains, wiring, and measurement systems
- Experience with system commissioning, installation, and facility integration;
- Knowledge of cryogenic automation, monitoring, or control systems
- Strong engineering documentation and process management skills
- Ability to lead complex engineering projects involving multiple stakeholders
Benefits And Compensation:
- Annual salary of €59,600 to €102,600

- Travel requirement of 25% to 50%
