Deployment Physicist, Installation

Job Description

Job Title: Deployment Physicist, On-premises Installation. Location: London or Cambridge, United Kingdom

Responsibilities:

• Install Helios quantum computing systems at customer locations, including shipment preparation, relocation, installation, and validation
• Improve deployment plans, work instructions, and installation procedures
• Serve as the team's expert in trapped-ion technology and qubit operations during system deployment
• Provide remote and on-site support for deployed Helios systems with global engineering teams
• Participate in hardware integration and system validation before customer deployment;
• Contribute to the design, execution, and deployment of future on-premises quantum hardware platforms
• Maintain high standards of technical execution, teamwork, and customer support
• Travel internationally for deployments for up to three months at a time and approximately 25% otherwise

Qualifications:

• Ph.D. completed
• Minimum 8 years of post-graduate experience in atomic physics or quantum computing roles
• Eligible for international travel
• Must meet U.S. national security eligibility requirements for the position

Preferred:

• Strong knowledge of trapped-ion quantum computing, hardware integration, and system validation
• Proven research and development experience in atomic physics with publications, successful programs, or commercial products;
• Experience with lasers, laser cooling, atom trapping, cryogenics, ultra-high vacuum systems, analog and digital electronics, laboratory hardware control, Python, physical modeling, and data analysis
• Strong documentation skills, including test plans, troubleshooting guides, and configuration documentation
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to consistently deliver high-quality technical work and meet project schedules
