Director, Financial Planning & Analysis

Job Description

Job Title: Director, Financial Planning & Analysis. Location: British Columbia, Canada

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the company’s financial planning and analysis function and report directly to the CFO
  • Own the annual budgeting process, including cross-functional coordination, financial consolidation, and board-ready planning
  • Maintain rolling forecasts and communicate financial updates, risks, and business drivers to leadership
  • Build milestone-based financial models covering R&D development, capital deployment, and commercial revenue planning
  • Conduct scenario analysis and sensitivity modelling to support strategic business decisions;
  • Produce monthly and quarterly variance analysis across R&D spending, operating costs, and headcount
  • Track key financial metrics including burn rate, cash runway, and capital deployment efficiency
  • Build KPI dashboards and management reporting frameworks for leadership and board reporting
  • Partner with department leaders on financial planning, spend tracking, and resource allocation;
  • Improve FP&A templates, reporting standards, and operational processes for scalability and audit readiness
  • Evaluate and optimize FP&A tools alongside finance systems teams
  • Use AI-enabled tools for automation, forecasting, and reporting efficiency
  • Define long-term FP&A operating structure, reporting cadences, and hiring roadmap

Qualifications:

  • CPA designation (CPA Canada)
  • 7 to 10+ years of progressive finance experience with ownership of budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
  • Experience leading or scaling FP&A functions in R&D-intensive or pre-commercial technology environments
  • Experience building and managing finance teams;
  • Strong understanding of pre-commercial financial metrics including cash runway and R&D efficiency
  • Advanced financial modelling expertise and experience with FP&A planning platforms;
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to scientists, engineers, and non-finance stakeholders
  • Experience using AI tools to automate workflows and improve financial analysis quality

Preferred:

  • CFA designation
  • Experience with SQL or BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker
  • Experience supporting fundraising or public company readiness processes;
  • Familiarity with commercial-stage financial models and usage-based revenue frameworks
  • Degree in Commerce, Business Administration, or Accounting; MBA considered an asset
