Photonics Data Analysis Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Photonics Data Analysis Engineer (Hybrid). Location: Toronto, ON, Canada

In this role, you will help build the software and workflows that analyze and measure on-chip photonic devices, the building blocks of Xanadu’s Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computer; You will bridge the gap between physics and software, working on tools that turn experimental data into engineering insights.

Duties:

• Develop and maintain data analysis software for photonic device testing and measurement.
• Automate workflows from Jupyter notebooks into scalable, cloud-based data pipelines that process large optical datasets.
• Design, test, and improve algorithms for analyzing optical and quantum data;
• Quantify and forecast uncertainties in derived metrics and experimental designs.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers and physicists to apply software best practices.
• Debug analysis workflows to identify issues in software, experiments, or physical devices.
• Work with data engineers to ensure data integrity and proper sourcing;
• Create visualizations and metrics that support design and decision-making.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
• Strong programming skills in Python, with experience using NumPy, SciPy, and pandas.
• Understanding of Python data structures and clean software design principles;
• Familiarity with Git and version control workflows;
• Solid background in photonics, optical physics, or quantum physics.
• Strong mathematical and statistical foundation, with the ability to handle large datasets.

Preferred:

• Master’s or PhD in Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.
• Experience in a professional software development environment.
• Understanding of the full software development lifecycle, including testing, CI/CD, and documentation.
• Knowledge of Bayesian or optimization methods for data analysis.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced research environment.
