Quantum Engineer, Readout

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Quantum Engineer, Readout. Location: Berkeley, CA

Responsibilities:

• Lead measurements of superconducting qubits to characterize dispersive readout in quantum circuits
• Develop new measurement techniques and optimize pulses to improve readout speed and fidelity
• Implement solutions in Python-based calibration and characterization software;
• Work with theory and simulation teams to build and validate models describing readout performance
• Recommend improvements to chip layout, signal lines, and electronics, and collaborate with hardware and device design teams to implement them
• Develop protocols that accelerate circuit execution and support error-correcting codes, including reset, mid-circuit measurement, and ancilla readout
• Improve readout and reset performance to support fault-tolerant computing goals

Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field
• At least 2 years of industry or postdoctoral experience
• Strong expertise in circuit quantum electrodynamics and dispersive readout
• Proven experience performing measurements on quantum systems and explaining results using theory or simulation
• Hands-on exposure to superconducting qubits in academic or industry settings;
• Experience with software development in languages such as Python, C, C++, or Rust
• Experience with low-level pulse optimization for quantum gates or readout
• Strong collaboration and communication skills

Benefits and Compensation:

• Base salary range: $170,000 to $200,000 per year
