Scientist, Quantum Sensing

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Scientist, Quantum Sensing (Software). Location: Sydney, Australia / Oxford, United Kingdom

You will work closely with teams across quantum control, sensing research and engineering to deliver quantum technology solutions with global impact.

Duties:

• Develop research software to support the deployment of quantum control solutions and sensor fusion algorithms for atom interferometers and magnetometers.
• Build and maintain robust, high-performance software packages for internal scientific and engineering teams;
• Ensure software is properly documented, tested, and optimized for both physical and functional accuracy.
• Collaborate with quantum control engineers, experimental physicists, and sensor specialists to implement algorithms on real hardware.
• Contribute to Q-CTRL’s research by publishing results and sharing tools internally and externally;
• Work with teams across the Quantum Sensing Division and participate in technical discussions, presentations, and collaborative projects.
• Perform additional tasks that align with your expertise to help achieve the company’s mission.

Qualifications:

• PhD in Physics, Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Experience in theory, numerical modeling, or optimization of quantum sensing systems such as atom interferometry or cold atomic systems.
• Knowledge of pulse-level optimization and quantum control techniques;
• Strong understanding of quantum sensing applications in navigation and metrology;
• Motivation to work in a fast-paced environment advancing the future of quantum technologies.

Preferred:

• Expertise in Python, C++, or C for scientific computing.
• Experience modeling real quantum experiments and collaborating with both theoretical and experimental teams.
• Familiarity with continuous integration systems and modern software development practices;
• Proven record of developing reliable scientific software packages.
