Job Description

Job Title: Lead Systems Engineer. Location: Sydney, Australia

You will oversee integration of complex hardware and software subsystems to create reliable, deployable quantum navigation systems while mentoring and guiding a team of engineers.

Duties:

  • Lead the team responsible for development, integration, and validation of quantum navigation systems.
  • Define and implement systems engineering processes, standards, and documentation, including requirements management, architecture, verification, and validation.
  • Develop and maintain system-level requirements, architecture, and interface definitions across disciplines;
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to capture and refine technical, product, and user requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineers and scientists to integrate electronics, optics, mechanics, and software components;
  • Plan and execute integration, environmental, and functional testing using instruments like oscilloscopes, multimeters, and data acquisition systems.
  • Lead flight and field trials, including preparation, logistics, setup, operation, and troubleshooting.
  • Document system configurations, test results, anomalies, and generate high-quality technical documentation such as interface diagrams, test plans, and operating manuals.
  • Support business development and program management from a technical solutions perspective;
  • Mentor and develop systems engineers and technicians, fostering excellence and continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering; aerospace industry experience is highly regarded.
  • Formal systems engineering training or certification (e.g., INCOSE) is a plus.
  • Proven ability to lead systems engineering teams through full lifecycle delivery from concept to field validation.
  • Experience in R&D environments working with scientists and engineers across TRL maturity levels;
  • Extensive expertise in systems engineering, integration, and validation of complex hardware/software systems, preferably in aerospace, defense, or advanced sensing domains.
  • Strong skills in requirements management, stakeholder engagement, and technical documentation;
  • Proficiency with test and measurement tools, interpretation of schematics, mechanical drawings, and wiring diagrams.
  • Experience with field trials and flight testing, including domestic and international travel;
  • Familiarity with collaboration and configuration management tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams.
