Software Engineer, Quantum Sensing

Job Description

Job Title: Software Engineer, Quantum Sensing. Location: Sydney, Australia

You will develop and optimize software running on Linux control platforms for quantum accelerometers and magnetometers, supporting navigation, data processing, & integration with Q-CTRL’s cloud systems.

Duties:

  • Design, develop, and support software applications used in Q-CTRL’s quantum sensors and hardware systems.
  • Build, test, and deploy software for real-time optimization of sensing, navigation, and map-matching algorithms;
  • Collaborate with research scientists to implement efficient algorithms for mobile platforms such as drones, ships, and aircraft.
  • Integrate sensing solutions with Q-CTRL’s cloud infrastructure and services;
  • Participate in field trials with defense and industry partners to validate performance in real-world environments.
  • Manage and improve continuous integration systems, testing pipelines, and deployment workflows.
  • Contribute to software development best practices, testing standards, and release management within engineering teams.

Qualifications:

  • Experience developing numerical or algorithmic software, especially in areas like inertial navigation, state estimation, and data fusion.
  • Proficiency in C++ or similar systems programming languages such as Rust;
  • Strong command of Python and related tools for data analysis and optimization.
  • Background in research environments and collaboration with scientists and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience managing continuous integration systems and automated testing.
  • Leadership in implementing software engineering standards and efficient workflows;
  • Familiarity with quantum sensing, cold-atom interferometry, or magnetometry is beneficial but not required.
