Scientist, Quantum Sensing (Cold Atoms)

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Scientist, Quantum Sensing (Cold Atoms). Location: Sydney, Australia

You will work closely with research and engineering teams to help turn cutting-edge quantum sensing research into deployable technology.

Duties:

• Conduct experimental research on cold-atom and atom interferometer based quantum sensors.
• Work closely with experimental physicists, quantum control engineers, and hardware specialists to implement quantum control protocols on real sensor systems.
• Assist in the development, operation, and analysis of next-generation atom interferometers to maximize sensitivity and robustness.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to reduce SWaP and improve ruggedness of laboratory systems for field deployment;
• Support cross-team collaboration within Quantum Sensing Research, Quantum Sensing Engineering, and the wider company.
• Share technical insights through presentations, academic publications, reports, and other written materials.
• Contribute to broader company goals by supporting tasks aligned with your skills and experience.

Qualifications:

• PhD in Physics, Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Experimental experience with atom interferometry, cold or ultracold atomic systems, or quantum sensing using warm atomic vapors.
• Hands-on experience with quantum sensor operation, automation, and data fusion;
• Strong motivation to work with a world-leading team building real-world quantum technology.
• Experience with Python for scientific computing is a plus but not required.
• Understanding of performance limits in field-deployable systems is beneficial.
