Job Description

Job Title: Mechanical Engineer. Location: Sydney, Australia. Job Type: Full-time / Permanent / On-site

The role requires hands-on experience with mechanical subsystem design, CAD modeling, and integration of laser and vacuum systems; You will work closely with physicists and engineers to make complex quantum technologies reliable and field-ready.

Duties:

• Use Inventor CAD and engineering skills to design quantum sensor systems, from requirements through detailed design and testing.
• Perform subsystem analysis and environmental testing to confirm system performance;
• Design hardware components, interpret project requirements, and communicate how designs meet technical needs.
• Contribute to integration, commissioning, and field trials of quantum sensing technology;
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of physicists, engineers, and stakeholders to deliver precision measurement systems.
• Apply relevant industry standards and best practices to mechanical designs.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 2–5 years of experience in mechanical design and prototyping, including analysis, drawings, tolerancing, and assembly.
• Experience with Inventor CAD or similar design software.
• Ability to design and test precision hardware systems;
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Nice to Have:

• Experience working in R&D or research environments.
• Background in optical or high-precision mechanical systems;
• Familiarity with regulated industries such as aerospace or medical devices.
• Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) for structural, modal, or thermal studies.
