Job Description
Job Title: Senior Accountant. Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Responsibilities:
- Manage end-to-end accounting for inventory and materials, including capitalization, usage tracking, valuation, and compliance with US GAAP.
- Oversee the complete lifecycle of fixed assets, including capitalization, depreciation, disposals, and impairment analysis.
- Partner with R&D, Purchasing, and Facilities teams to accurately classify and record equipment and capital assets.
- Lead accounting activities during monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial schedules;
- Act as the primary contact for external auditors regarding inventory, fixed assets, revenue, and grant-related audits.
- Ensure compliance with US GAAP and internal SOX control requirements.
- Manage revenue recognition and grant accounting activities during month-end and quarter-end close cycles.
- Conduct financial variance analysis across revenue, inventory, and capital investments.
- Maintain audit-ready documentation and support accurate financial reporting.
- Lead financial reporting and documentation for government funding programs, including SR&ED, SIF, and FedDev.
- Develop and manage annual CAPEX budgets with department leaders;
- Analyze budget versus actual spending to support investment planning and cash flow management.
- Oversee invoice processing for capital projects and ensure accurate OPEX and CAPEX classification.
- Identify and implement process improvements and automation initiatives to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Support additional accounting projects and cross-functional initiatives as assigned by the Finance Manager.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation or actively working toward completion.
- 2 to 4 years of progressive accounting experience in public accounting or industry.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven ability to take ownership of responsibilities and deliver consistent results.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and project management skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Preferred:
- Experience working in a high-growth, agile, or startup environment.
- Familiarity with public company reporting and SOX compliance frameworks.
- Experience using ERP systems, particularly NetSuite.
- Knowledge of Python and SQL.
- Strong understanding of US GAAP accounting standards.

- Annual salary of CAD $95,000 to $115,000.
