Senior Accountant

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Accountant. Location: Toronto, ON, Canada

You will work closely with finance, R&D, facilities, and leadership teams to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong compliance, and smart capital planning in a high-growth quantum technology environment.

Duties:

  • Lead full lifecycle accounting for fixed assets, including capitalization, depreciation, disposals, and impairment testing.
  • Partner with R&D, purchasing, and facilities teams to track new equipment and ensure correct asset classification.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliations and roll-forward schedules for the general ledger.
  • Act as the main contact for external auditors on fixed asset matters and ensure compliance with US GAAP and internal controls.
  • Improve and automate asset tracking and CAPEX processes to reduce errors and improve visibility;
  • Support property tax filings and tax depreciation schedules by providing accurate asset data.
  • Develop and manage annual CAPEX budgets and monthly variance analysis to support financial forecasting and cash flow planning.
  • Oversee invoice processing for capital projects and ensure accurate classification between OPEX and CAPEX.
  • Manage accounts payable workflows for major vendors and contractors to ensure timely payments and accurate accruals.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of experience in public accounting or an internal accounting role with growing responsibility.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to improve systems, processes, and internal controls.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills;
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and strong overall Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Experience with NetSuite is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Python and/or SQL is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with startup or agile work environments is a plus.
