Senior Accountant

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Accountant. Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Responsibilities:

  • Manage end-to-end accounting for inventory and materials, including capitalization, usage tracking, valuation, and compliance with US GAAP.
  • Oversee the complete lifecycle of fixed assets, including capitalization, depreciation, disposals, and impairment analysis.
  • Partner with R&D, Purchasing, and Facilities teams to accurately classify and record equipment and capital assets.
  • Lead accounting activities during monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial schedules;
  • Act as the primary contact for external auditors regarding inventory, fixed assets, revenue, and grant-related audits.
  • Ensure compliance with US GAAP and internal SOX control requirements.
  • Manage revenue recognition and grant accounting activities during month-end and quarter-end close cycles.
  • Conduct financial variance analysis across revenue, inventory, and capital investments.
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation and support accurate financial reporting.
  • Lead financial reporting and documentation for government funding programs, including SR&ED, SIF, and FedDev.
  • Develop and manage annual CAPEX budgets with department leaders;
  • Analyze budget versus actual spending to support investment planning and cash flow management.
  • Oversee invoice processing for capital projects and ensure accurate OPEX and CAPEX classification.
  • Identify and implement process improvements and automation initiatives to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Support additional accounting projects and cross-functional initiatives as assigned by the Finance Manager.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA designation or actively working toward completion.
  • 2 to 4 years of progressive accounting experience in public accounting or industry.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to take ownership of responsibilities and deliver consistent results.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and project management skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in a high-growth, agile, or startup environment.
  • Familiarity with public company reporting and SOX compliance frameworks.
  • Experience using ERP systems, particularly NetSuite.
  • Knowledge of Python and SQL.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP accounting standards.

  • Annual salary of CAD $95,000 to $115,000.
