Senior Assembly Technician

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Assembly Technician. Location: British Columbia, Canada

Responsibilities:

  • Assemble, integrate, and verify complete 19-inch rack and multi-rack quantum control systems
  • Work with MicroTCA assemblies, custom optical, microwave, and detector control hardware
  • Install power distribution, grounding, cooling interfaces, and system interconnects
  • Route, label, and secure RF, microwave, optical fiber, analog, and digital cabling;
  • Ensure mechanical integrity, build quality, serviceability, and consistency across systems
  • Perform controlled power-up, sequencing, and basic bring-up checks
  • Partner with Hardware Controls, Logistics, and other Operations teams for smooth integration
  • Provide feedback during design reviews for assembly, serviceability, and manufacturability
  • Execute builds using travelers, rack layouts, wiring diagrams, and documentation
  • Refine and improve assembly processes and documentation for repeatable builds;
  • Support onboarding, mentoring, and workflow development for new assembly technicians
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, cabling, and integration issues
  • Assist with installation in laboratory and cryogenic environments

Qualifications:

  • Seven or more years of hands-on experience in electronics, electromechanical, or system-level assembly
  • Experience with 19-inch rack systems, telecom, or data center infrastructure
  • Proven ability to own full-rack or multi-rack builds
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and high standards for cable management;
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and assembly documentation
  • Experience in laboratory, prototype, or production environments with complex hardware systems
  • Comfortable providing structured feedback to engineering teams

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with MicroTCA, ATCA, PXI, or similar modular hardware platforms
  • Experience with PLM and ERP systems (Arena, Oracle Netsuite)
  • Knowledge of AC power systems and EMI considerations
  • Experience assembling or integrating custom optical and microwave hardware
  • Handling RF, microwave, and optical fiber interconnects;
  • Exposure to cryogenic systems, scientific instrumentation, or physics-driven hardware
  • Participation in design-for-manufacturing or design reviews
