Silicon Physical Design Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Staff Silicon Physical Design Engineer, Quantum AI. Location: Mountain View, CA, USA; Goleta, CA, USA

Responsibilities:

• Own and develop an industry-standard ASIC implementation flow for quantum electronics systems
• Execute full RTL-to-GDS2 physical design including synthesis, floorplanning, place and route, and CTS
• Perform design verification tasks including STA, SI/PI analysis, DRC, and LVS checks;
• Collaborate with architecture and design teams to optimize power, performance, and area (PPA)
• Lead implementation of quantum control ICs with internal and external vendors
• Manage packaging, schedules, documentation, and foundry coordination for silicon delivery
• Support IP evaluation, contract negotiation, and vendor selection processes;
• Contribute to post-silicon validation and design for test (DFT) strategies

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with 5+ years of ASIC implementation experience
• Experience building RTL-to-GDS2 flows for high-performance ASICs
• Strong background in digital physical design and silicon implementation processes
• Experience with STA, DFT, and physical verification flows;
• Ability to manage complex engineering programs and vendor coordination

Preferred:

• Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering or related field
• Experience as technical lead for complex ASIC projects
• Experience in SI/PI analysis and package design strategies
• Experience with post-silicon validation and DFT methodologies (Scan, MBIST, BISR)
• Experience managing external ASIC vendors and foundry interactions
• Strong understanding of quantum electronics and control hardware systems

Benefits and Compensation:

• $192,000 to $279,000 base salary (US)
• Up to 20% bonus target plus equity and benefits
