Job Description

Job Title: Student Researcher, PhD, Winter/Summer 2026. Location: Mountain View, California, USA (Multiple U.S. locations available)

Job Type: Research Fellowship

Responsibilities:

• Participate in research projects that address real-world, large-scale computing challenges
• Develop innovative solutions in areas such as quantum information science, machine learning, data science, optimization, and software engineering
• Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and scientists across multiple research teams
• Contribute to scientific advancements and the development of next-generation computing technologies
• Support research efforts that lead to breakthrough technologies for Google products and services

Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science, Linguistics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Economics, Natural Sciences, or a related technical field
• Experience in at least one area of computer science, such as Quantum Information Science, machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, natural language understanding, data science, or software engineering;
• Must be located in the United States for the duration of the research program
• English proficiency required
• Submit an updated resume/CV and an unofficial or official transcript in English
• Resume must include anticipated graduation date (MM/YY) and programming language proficiency

Preferred:

• Enrolled full-time and returning to the PhD program after the research engagement
• Currently studying at a U.S. institution
• Previous research experience through internships, laboratories, or full-time positions
• Experience publishing research papers in conferences or journals
• Experience programming in Python, Java, JavaScript, C++, or similar languages

• Annual salary of $118,000 to $157,000 (USD)
