EDA Tool Developer

Job Description

Job Title: EDA Tool Developer (Intermediate, Senior, or Staff). Location: Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada (Hybrid)

This role sits at the intersection of software engineering, physics, and hardware design, and directly impacts the performance and scalability of D-Wave’s quantum computing systems, including both annealing and gate-model architectures.

Duties:

  • Develop, extend, and maintain a unified EDA toolchain that supports quantum chip design across servers and local systems.
  • Build and improve internal tools for circuit topology extraction, parasitic extraction, verification, and chip density optimization.
  • Extend electromagnetic simulation and modeling infrastructure used in quantum IC design;
  • Evaluate commercial and open-source EDA tools and integrate them into existing workflows when appropriate.
  • Customize tools and design flows to align with quantum hardware requirements and specialized fabrication processes.
  • Automate and maintain chip documentation, versioning, and revision control workflows.
  • Collaborate closely with IC designers, engineers, and scientists across processor development teams.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree in electronic engineering, computer science, physics, or a related field.
  • Strong programming experience in multiple languages such as Python, C++, or similar.
  • Experience working with EDA tools at scale, including development, integration, or maintenance.
  • Solid understanding of algorithms, performance tradeoffs, and system complexity;
  • Proficiency in Linux-based development environments.
  • Experience collaborating in software development teams and managing complex toolchains.
  • Bonus experience includes IC design, EM simulation, parasitic extraction, superconducting or analog circuits, and EDA tool development.
  • Experience with containerized tool environments such as Docker is a plus.

Career Levels and Expectations:

  • Intermediate level focuses on contributing to scoped EDA projects with mentorship and growing expertise in superconducting IC design.
  • Senior level involves leading medium to large EDA initiatives, improving workflows, and mentoring junior developers.
  • Staff level acts as a technical leader, shaping long-term EDA strategy and architecture for evolving quantum hardware platforms.

Benefits and Instructions:

  • Competitive base salary based on level:
    • Intermediate: 90,182–135,273 CAD per year
    • Senior: 107,636–161,455 CAD per year
    • Staff: 127,273–190,909 CAD per year
  • Additional compensation includes equity, bonuses, benefits, and career growth support.
