Lead Cryogenic Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Lead Cryogenic Engineer. Location: Delft, Netherlands

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and operate large-scale cryogenic test facilities including dilution refrigerators and supporting infrastructure
• Lead commissioning of new cryogenic systems and ensure full operational readiness within strict timelines
• Improve system reliability, performance, and availability across cryostat fleets;
• Optimize base temperature stability, coherence, ground loops, and dephasing for high-performance quantum hardware
• Develop operational procedures, monitoring systems, and preventive maintenance strategies;
• Collaborate with RF, hardware, and measurement engineers to support experimental campaigns
• Ensure continuous improvement of cryogenic infrastructure for quantum processor development

Qualifications:

• Strong hands-on experience with cryogenic systems, especially dilution refrigerators
• Experience with RF measurements and cryogenic RF optimization
• Background in scaling and operating complex technical infrastructure
• Experience in industrial, R&D, or high-throughput experimental environments
• Ability to work under performance pressure and manage engineering trade-offs effectively

Preferred:

• Experience in industrial cryogenics or semiconductor test environments
• Experience in large experimental physics facilities
• Experience supporting quantum hardware scale-up environments;
• Strong troubleshooting experience with cryogenic system failures and optimization
