Job Description

Job Title: Senior Machine Learning (ML) Algorithms Researcher. Location: Hybrid (Burnaby, British Columbia, CA)

The position focuses on generative AI, quantum annealing, and hybrid ML models that integrate classical and quantum methods; The role involves designing algorithms that leverage quantum processors to solve real-world problems in science, medicine, and industry.

Duties:

• Conduct research and develop new generative models, including transformer and diffusion models combined with quantum annealing.
• Design and test conditioning methods for quantum processing units (QPUs) to enable efficient sampling;
• Build and optimize AI models using coherent annealing and reverse annealing techniques.
• Collaborate with internal ML teams and external research partners to align R&D goals with real-world challenges.
• Support multiple ongoing quantum and ML research initiatives within the organization;
• Present findings and contribute to scientific publications and technical reports.

Qualifications:

• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in machine learning research or applied ML roles;
• Deep knowledge of diffusion models, generative modeling, and algorithm design.
• Familiarity with quantum annealing and gate-model quantum computing.
• Skilled in Python; experience with C++ preferred.
• Strong foundation in Monte Carlo methods, statistical physics, and data analysis.
• Ability to interpret complex research papers and apply them in practice;
• Experience in scientific writing and communicating research to varied audiences.
• Independent researcher with a collaborative and open communication style.
