Microwave and Cryogenics Test Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Microwave and Cryogenics Test Engineer. Location: Fremont, CA

Responsibilities:

  • Test, validate, and debug custom RF control systems using network analyzers, oscilloscopes, multimeters, DC power supplies, and internal tools
  • Operate, troubleshoot, service, and maintain cryogenic systems and vacuum infrastructure including scroll pumps, turbo pumps, cryo compressors, high-vacuum components, and cold traps
  • Perform helium leak detection, pump rebuilds, and thermal system management
  • Assemble, validate, and install complex electro-mechanical, RF, cryogenic, and vacuum assemblies with high attention to detail
  • Develop and execute test plans for next-generation RF hardware;
  • Support uptime of cryogenic infrastructure through participation in an on-call rotation
  • Prepare, inspect, and package quantum chip assemblies for testing
  • Follow and improve standard operating procedures and laboratory best practices
  • Read and interpret CAD drawings, schematics, and engineering specifications;
  • Support external installations and work directly with customers and partners, with up to 20 percent travel

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Physics, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent industrial or military experience
  • Strong hands-on experience with electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes and network analyzers
  • Substantial laboratory experience with sub-Kelvin cryogenic systems
  • Experience operating and maintaining high-availability scientific or industrial equipment
  • Experience assembling and servicing complex electro-mechanical systems;
  • Familiarity with vacuum systems, plumbing, P&IDs, fittings, and laboratory standards
  • Working knowledge of statistical methods for validation such as DOE or Six Sigma
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills
  • Experience working with vendors and external partners

Preferred:

  • Experience with dilution refrigerators or ultra-low-temperature systems
  • Programming or scripting experience in Python or similar languages;
  • Advanced degree such as MS or PhD

  • Base salary range of $115,000 to $140,000 per year
