Packaging Engineer - New Product

Job Description

Job Title: Sr. Packaging Engineer - New Product Introduction. Location: Toronto, ON, Canada

You will lead the development of ultra-low-loss packaging solutions and work hands-on with equipment to ensure reliable and scalable manufacturing outcomes.

Duties:

  • Lead end-to-end NPI activities for new packaging processes, from early concept through pilot and high-volume manufacturing.
  • Develop, validate, and implement new packaging workflows and equipment.
  • Perform hands-on process characterization, optimization, and validation on packaging lines.
  • Research, evaluate, select, and qualify new packaging tools, materials, and technologies;
  • Act as a technical expert for troubleshooting complex packaging issues during development and production.
  • Work directly with machines during the NPI process, including advanced FiconTEC equipment.
  • Manage multiple projects at the same time while meeting technical, quality, and timeline requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with R&D, design, manufacturing, and supply chain teams across the product lifecycle.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Photonics Engineering, Packaging Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in packaging engineering within a manufacturing or NPI environment.
  • Solid understanding of photonic-based on-chip and off-chip systems.
  • Proven experience with advanced packaging technologies and equipment, with required experience using FiconTEC tools.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data-driven decision-making skills;
  • Experience managing complex technical projects from concept to completion.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD and familiarity with statistical analysis tools.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams.

  • Base salary range of 180,000 to 230,000 CAD, based on experience and location.
