Photonics Test Engineer - Data

Job Description

Job Title: Photonics Test Engineer - Data Analysis. Location: Toronto, ON, Canada

The position combines hands-on photonics testing with strong programming and data analysis skills, contributing directly to advancing quantum hardware & scalable computation.

Duties:

• Develop and maintain reliable data analysis pipelines for photonic device testing.
• Collaborate with physicists and hardware engineers to implement software best practices.
• Apply mathematical, physical, and statistical models to interpret experimental data;
• Create and improve algorithms for analyzing complex quantum and optical datasets.
• Work with data engineers to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and traceability.
• Support researchers and engineers in using the tools and workflows you build;
• Optionally assist with test automation and broader test engineering activities.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.
• Strong programming skills in Python, with experience using data libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, and pandas.
• Knowledge of Git and modern development workflows;
• Understanding of photonics, optical physics, or semiconductor testing;
• At least 1 year of experience in either a photonics lab or software development environment.
• Understanding of software design principles and clean code practices.

Preferred:

• Master’s or PhD in Engineering, Physics, or related fields.
• Experience with Bayesian methods, statistical modeling, or optimization for data analysis;
• Familiarity with the full software development lifecycle, including testing and continuous integration.
• Strong intuition in applied mathematics and statistical reasoning;
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills in a research-driven environment.
