Job Description

Job Title: Research Scientist - Fabrication. Location: Boston, Massachusetts, USA

The role centers on nano-photonic device fabrication, lithography process optimization, and analysis of complex scientific data to support the next generation of distributed quantum systems; Your work will directly shape how trapped-ion quantum processors communicate and scale.

Duties:

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain fabrication recipes for nano-photonic devices using e-beam and direct-write lithography.
  • Set up inline metrology monitors and apply statistical process control for key fabrication steps.
  • Analyze data from fabrication experiments and provide technical insights to design teams.
  • Work across physics, engineering, and fabrication groups to support a shared development roadmap.
  • Contribute to simulation, testing, and refinement of nano-structured devices.
  • Support continuous improvement of fabrication processes across substrates and device types.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in physics, engineering, or a related field.
  • Five or more years of experience in fabrication, simulation, and optimization of nano-structured devices.
  • Strong background in lithography, etching, annealing, CVD, and PVD;
  • Experience with simulation tools such as Lumerical, COMSOL, or Flexcompute.
  • Skill in data processing, visualization, and organization;
  • Understanding of fabrication constraints for nano-structures.

Preferred:

  • Seven or more years of experience in nanophotonics design and characterization.
  • Three or more years of industry experience;
  • Experience with heterogeneous integration and on-chip components.
  • Experience developing optical testing setups, including automated systems.

Benefits and instructions:

  • Base salary range is $107,123 to $140,251, plus bonus, equity, and full benefits.

  • This role is onsite in Boston, MA, with less than ten percent travel.
