Job Description

Job Title: Research Scientist, Device Theory, Quantum AI. Location: United States, multiple in-office locations and remote eligible

Responsibilities:

  • Simulate single and two qubit gates and readout processes for superconducting qubits, including realistic environmental noise such as thermal, flux, and charge noise
  • Model hardware constraints from AQFP control electronics such as amplitude limits, timing resolution, bandwidth limits, pulse distortion, and crosstalk
  • Propose and analyze new gate and readout methods compatible with AQFP electronics;
  • Collaborate with hardware design and measurement teams to identify and model error sources that limit QPU performance
  • Develop strategies to improve system performance and support progress toward a fault-tolerant quantum computer
  • Design experiments, prototype implementations, and develop new architectures based on advanced device theory
  • Publish and share research findings with the broader scientific community
  • Contribute to research collaborations with universities and technical institutes

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering field, or equivalent practical experience
  • At least 3 years of experience in quantum computing
  • Hands-on experience with superconducting qubits;
  • At least one scientific publication submitted to conferences, journals, or public repositories
  • Strong understanding of qubit gate modeling and qubit readout modeling

Preferred:

  • Experience with Circuit QED, transmon qubits, fluxonium qubits, tunable couplers, or flux and charge noise analysis
  • Experience with collaborative software development
  • Experience working closely with experimental quantum hardware teams

Benefits and Compensation:

  • Base salary range: $141,000 to $202,000 per year, plus bonus, equity, and benefits

  • 20 days of paid vacation per year, accruing at 6.15 hours per pay period during the first five years
  • 40 hours of sick time per year where applicable, plus 5 discretionary days per event

  • Compensation depends on role, level, location, skills, and experience
