Job Description
Job Title: Quantum Scientist. Location: Oxford, England, United Kingdom
Responsibilities:
- Prototype and characterize coherent control and cooling schemes for trapped-ion qubits using laser and microwave fields
- Calibrate and benchmark quantum systems to achieve high fidelity in quantum circuit primitives such as ion transport and gate operations
- Validate emerging trap technologies, including integrated electronics and photonics for large-scale architectures
- Design, code, debug, and execute experiments on quantum hardware;
- Analyze experimental data and troubleshoot complex hardware and software interactions
- Develop and validate novel quantum control schemes
- Document and share scientific findings to improve system performance and support research goals
Qualifications:
- PhD in physics or a related field with strong knowledge of atomic or qubit-related physics
- Background in quantum computing or experimental AMO physics
- Experience in calibration, benchmarking, or coherent control of qubits
- Experience with spectroscopy, multi-level systems, control hardware characterization, or gate fidelity benchmarking is valuable
- Strong programming and data analysis skills, especially in Python;
- Ability to work independently and collaborate in a fast-moving technical team
- Scientific communication experience through publications, talks, or conferences is advantageous
- Postdoctoral or industry experience is beneficial but not required
