Job Description
Job Title: Senior Engineer, System Calibration. Location: Milpitas, California, United States
Responsibilities:
- Lead and organize all system-level calibration activities for prototype modules that scale into a fault-tolerant quantum computer.
- Aggregate calibration and operational data from component and subsystem teams into a unified system framework.
- Perform system-level risk analysis and develop mitigation plans across hardware, firmware, and software interfaces.
- Develop modeling and analytical tools to understand how calibrations interact across integrated subsystems;
- Track calibration timing, uptime estimates, and performance metrics to improve system reliability.
- Define requirements for hardware, firmware, and software teams to meet uptime and performance targets.
- Specify and validate test requirements across different levels of integration testing.
- Lead cross-functional working groups to address high-risk calibration challenges.
- Collaborate with control software teams to integrate calibrations into executable routines;
- Support debugging, root-cause analysis, and validation during system prototyping and integration.
- Work with technologies such as RF electronics, active photonics, analog mixed-signal hardware, lasers, cryostats, embedded systems, complex data acquisition systems, and quantum modules.
Qualifications:
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or related field.
- Minimum 3+ years of industry experience with a Ph.D. or 5+ years with an M.S.
- Strong experience integrating optical and electronic hardware, firmware, software, and data acquisition systems.
- Hands-on experience in areas such as active photonics, RF engineering, optics, lasers, quantum computation, embedded systems, firmware, RTL, or signal processing.
- Experience working within cross-functional engineering teams;
- Proven ability to organize complex technical systems and document processes or hardware designs.
- Experience using Python or similar scripting languages for data analysis and experiment control.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including communication with senior leadership and technical teams.
- Ability to work across departments, sites, and time zones in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated interest in advancing large-scale quantum computing systems.
Benefits and Compensation:
- U.S. base salary range: $148,000 to $163,000 USD.
- Bay Area salary range: $180,000 to $195,000 USD.
- Compensation may vary based on education, experience, skills, and location.
- Full-time employees are eligible for equity and benefits;
- Base pay is one part of the total compensation package and may change in the future.
