Electromagnetic Simulation Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Electromagnetic Simulation Engineer. Location: Boulder, Colorado, United States

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of near-field electromagnetic simulation and optimization capabilities within the processor design team.
  • Develop and refine 3D near-field electromagnetic models at RF frequencies using tools such as Ansys or COMSOL, including realistic materials, geometries, and boundary conditions.
  • Model and analyze RF coupling and system-level behavior using LTspice or similar circuit simulation tools.
  • Build automated simulation and optimization pipelines using Python, Julia, or MATLAB to improve design speed, accuracy, and repeatability.
  • Translate theoretical electromagnetic models into scalable and manufacturable QPU architectures.
  • Collaborate closely with quantum processor engineers, physicists, and fabrication teams to align simulations with design and manufacturing constraints.
  • Establish and improve in-house electromagnetic modeling standards and best practices;
  • Support the design and scaling of ion trap architectures, which are central to the company’s quantum systems.

Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of experience using Ansys, COMSOL, or equivalent FEM tools for time-varying electromagnetic simulation.
  • Strong background in RF system modeling, including near-field analysis, parasitic coupling, and circuit simulation.
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or Julia for automation, data analysis, and numerical optimization.
  • MSc or PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field;
  • Deep understanding of RF system modelling within complex multi-physics environments.
