Job Description
Job Title: Electromagnetic Simulation Engineer. Location: Boulder, Colorado, United States
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of near-field electromagnetic simulation and optimization capabilities within the processor design team.
- Develop and refine 3D near-field electromagnetic models at RF frequencies using tools such as Ansys or COMSOL, including realistic materials, geometries, and boundary conditions.
- Model and analyze RF coupling and system-level behavior using LTspice or similar circuit simulation tools.
- Build automated simulation and optimization pipelines using Python, Julia, or MATLAB to improve design speed, accuracy, and repeatability.
- Translate theoretical electromagnetic models into scalable and manufacturable QPU architectures.
- Collaborate closely with quantum processor engineers, physicists, and fabrication teams to align simulations with design and manufacturing constraints.
- Establish and improve in-house electromagnetic modeling standards and best practices;
- Support the design and scaling of ion trap architectures, which are central to the company’s quantum systems.
Qualifications:
- At least 3 years of experience using Ansys, COMSOL, or equivalent FEM tools for time-varying electromagnetic simulation.
- Strong background in RF system modeling, including near-field analysis, parasitic coupling, and circuit simulation.
- Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or Julia for automation, data analysis, and numerical optimization.
- MSc or PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field;
- Deep understanding of RF system modelling within complex multi-physics environments.
