Job Description

Job Title: Quantum Computing Theory - Intern. Location: San Jose, CA; Albany, NY; Cambridge, MA; New York, NY; United States

This internship provides a chance to work with world-class researchers and gain hands-on experience in developing next-generation quantum computing solutions that address problems beyond classical computing limits.

Duties:

  • Conduct theoretical research in areas such as quantum error correction, information theory, and fault-tolerant algorithms.
  • Develop and analyze new models for error-resilient quantum computation;
  • Contribute to quantum compiler and algorithm design projects.
  • Use tools such as Qiskit, Python, NumPy, and SciPy for simulations and data analysis.
  • Collaborate with IBM researchers on academic publications and open-source projects;
  • Present research findings and contribute to discussions that shape IBM’s quantum computing roadmap.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Enrolled in or recently completed an academic graduate program related to quantum computing theory;
  • Coursework or research experience in fault-tolerant algorithms, error correction, or quantum information theory.
  • Proficiency in Python and familiarity with scientific libraries (NumPy, SciPy, Matplotlib).
  • Experience performing theoretical or academic research.
  • Knowledge of Qiskit and Git or GitHub preferred;
  • Strong academic writing and publication record in high-impact journals is a plus.
