Job Description

Job Title: Quantum Solutions Materials Theorist. Location: Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

The role focuses on enabling the design of next-generation photonic quantum computing components and contributing to scalable, fault-tolerant quantum systems.

Duties:

  • Conduct theoretical and computational research on quantum materials, electronic structure, and emergent phenomena.
  • Develop computational workflows integrating high-performance computing, machine learning, and quantum computing techniques;
  • Collaborate with computational physicists, quantum algorithm developers, and materials scientists to advance materials modeling.
  • Contribute expertise in many-body physics and electronic structure theory to guide research projects.
  • Stay current with state-of-the-art computational methods and apply them to materials research.
  • Serve as a technical leader in interdisciplinary collaborations, both internally and with external partners;
  • Document research progress, prepare publications, and contribute to scientific communication and presentations.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in computational physics, theoretical chemistry, or a related field, with strong expertise in electronic structure theory and many-body physics.
  • Proficiency in Python, Fortran, or C++ for scientific programming and algorithm development;
  • Experience with density functional theory (DFT) and other computational modeling methods.
  • Familiarity with high-performance computing (HPC) environments and large-scale simulations.
  • Preferred: experience with quantum algorithms applied to materials modeling, machine learning in computational materials science, and wavefunction-based methods such as coupled-cluster or configuration interaction;
  • Strong publication record and ability to work in interdisciplinary research teams.
