Research Engineer, Quantum Computing

Job Description

Job Title: Research Engineer, Quantum Computing, DeepMind. Location: London, United Kingdom

Responsibilities:

• Develop and deliver machine learning solutions for quantum computing research and engineering projects
• Translate classical and quantum algorithms into scalable, efficient, and maintainable software
• Build, test, and optimize production-quality code for research applications;
• Collaborate with experts in quantum computing, machine learning, mathematics, computational chemistry, computer science, and physics
• Bridge the gap between research and engineering by promoting software engineering best practices
• Write technical design documents and improve code quality, readability, and maintainability
• Support large-scale experimentation and implementation of traditional and agentic AI solutions

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
• At least 5 years of experience in machine learning, software engineering, and Python development;
• Experience with data structures and algorithms in academic or industry environments

Preferred:

• PhD in a relevant scientific or computational field
• Experience with agentic AI, transformers, diffusion models, LLMs, or related machine learning technologies
• Knowledge of quantum computing concepts
• Strong research background with experience implementing advanced machine learning systems
