Research Scientist, Silicon Qubits

Job Description

Job Title: Lead Research Scientist, Silicon Qubits. Location: Los Angeles, CA, USA

The goal is to improve system performance through advanced automation and real-time optimization; This role combines quantum device expertise, programming, and leadership to help push toward quantum advantage through AI-powered quantum control.

Duties:

• Lead a research team in setting strategic goals and research roadmaps for silicon qubit technology.
• Conduct cryogenic measurements and characterization of quantum dot-based qubits;
• Develop and test new control protocols for coarse tuning, gate calibration, and two-qubit optimization.
• Build scalable methods for processor-wide optimization, including cross-talk mitigation, leakage reduction, and defect control.
• Oversee software development for qubit measurement and control using Python, C++, and Rust;
• Collaborate with product managers and engineering teams to ensure timely progress for the Boulder Opal product.
• Document, present, and communicate research outcomes in clear and accessible language.

Qualifications:

• PhD in Physics, Engineering, or related discipline preferred (exceptional candidates with relevant industry experience considered).
• At least 3 years of post-PhD experience in quantum dot tuning and characterization.
• Expertise in numerical analysis, statistical learning, and optimization algorithms;
• Strong experience developing software modules for qubit control and calibration (Python, C++, or Rust).
• Solid understanding of quantum control systems and hardware-software integration.
