Job Description
Job Title: Research Intern, PhD, Summer 2026. Location: Waterloo, ON, Canada; Montreal, QC, Canada; Toronto, ON, Canada. Job Type: Internship (Research Intern, PhD, Summer 2026)
Interns will contribute to cutting-edge research across areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, optimization and quantum information science, with opportunities to impact products used by billions of people worldwide.
Duties:
- Develop and execute a focused research agenda aligned with team goals.
- Design experiments, build prototypes, and evaluate research ideas.
- Collaborate closely with researchers, developers, managers, and partner teams;
- Contribute to innovative research efforts across AI, machine learning, data science, and related fields.
- Share research outcomes through internal discussions, publications, or open-source contributions when applicable.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- Experience in at least one core research area such as machine learning, optimization, data science, or quantum information science.
- Strong programming skills, especially in Python or similar general-purpose languages;
- Research experience through internships, labs, or academic projects.
- Ability to communicate clearly in English;
- Must be located in Canada for the full duration of the internship.
- Preferred candidates are in their penultimate academic year and available to work full time for 12–14 weeks.
