Job Description

Job Title: Staff Research Scientist, Superconducting Qubits. Location: Los Angeles, CA, USA

This role involves designing, testing, and optimizing quantum control systems while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to integrate research outcomes into Q-CTRL’s software suite; The goal is to enhance the performance of quantum computers and push toward real quantum advantage.

Duties:

  • Develop new methods and tools to improve real-world quantum computer performance.
  • Design and implement measurement protocols for superconducting qubits and assess their reliability;
  • Conduct research on autonomous calibration, tune-up, and optimization techniques for scalable quantum hardware.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to turn research results into production-level software solutions.
  • Prepare and present technical documentation, papers, and reports in clear, accessible language;
  • Apply machine learning and optimization techniques to automate control and measurement processes.
  • Support broader research projects within your skill set or with additional training.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Physics, Engineering, or related field; PhD preferred.
  • 3–5 years of experience in quantum computing research or related fields.
  • In-depth understanding of superconducting quantum computing principles;
  • Experience running experiments and tuning up superconducting qubits.
  • Strong background in Python and familiarity with C++ or Rust for hardware control software.
  • Knowledge of statistical learning and optimization algorithms for performance enhancement.
  • Experience in developing software modules for qubit measurement and control;
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate across diverse research and engineering teams.
