Job Description

Job Title: Student Researcher, PhD, Winter/Summer 2026. Location: Waterloo, ON, Canada; Montreal, QC, Canada; Toronto, ON, Canada

This internship connects academic research with practical applications, allowing students to collaborate with top scientists and engineers at Google. Research projects are aligned with Google’s scientific priorities, aiming to advance knowledge, technology, and social impact.

Duties:

• Contribute to research projects addressing large-scale and real-world problems.
• Collaborate with Google researchers and developers to explore new ideas and technologies;
• Apply machine learning, data science, and other advanced computing methods to develop innovative solutions.
• Participate in exploratory studies that lead to new algorithms, frameworks, and experimental models;
• Document findings, collaborate on publications, and contribute to open research communities.

Qualifications:

• Must be enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Linguistics, or a related technical field.
• Experience in one or more of the following areas: Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing, Quantum Computing, Optimization, or Data Science.
• Familiarity with at least one programming language such as Python, Java, or C++;
• Demonstrated research experience through labs, internships, or published papers.
• English proficiency required for collaboration across teams;
• Applicants must reside in Canada during the internship.
