Technical Account Manager - Research

Job Description

Job Title: Staff Technical Account Manager - Research. Location: Germany or Italy - Remote

You will support customers through technical discussions, long-term planning, and hands-on solution guidance while working closely with internal teams across services, R&D, product, and sales. This position requires strong communication skills, customer engagement experience, and the ability to translate complex ideas into clear direction.

Duties:

  • Present D-Wave’s quantum computing capabilities to research prospects and explore project ideas based on their most important computational problems.
  • Explain the company’s strategy, roadmap, and technology to technical and executive audiences in research organizations.
  • Deliver talks at conferences, webinars, seminars, and other large events;
  • Support marketing efforts by hosting webinars, attending conferences, and representing D-Wave at industry events.
  • Work with teams across services, R&D, and support to run technical meetings on active research programs and help strengthen long-term research engagement.
  • Build and maintain strong technical relationships with customer teams throughout the full project lifecycle.
  • Identify new opportunities where D-Wave’s solutions can be applied and recommend project ideas;
  • Act as a technical resource on optimization, industry trends, and competitive technologies.
  • Communicate customer needs clearly to internal product and development teams.
  • Break down complex technical information for different audiences;
  • Maintain a strong customer support mindset and provide direct, clear guidance.
  • Travel 30 percent to 50 percent for conferences, client meetings, training, and events.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related STEM field; an advanced degree is helpful.
  • Fluency in German or Italian and English is required.
  • More than five years of experience in technical customer-facing roles such as Sales Engineer, Technical Account Manager, Presales, Solution Architect, or a similar enterprise-facing position.
  • More than two years of Python programming experience in enterprise environments.
  • Experience working with customers in logistics, manufacturing, pharma, fintech, or research and education.
  • Strong background in optimization, algorithms, or applied mathematics.
  • Experience with GitHub and REST APIs.
  • Familiarity with quantum computing concepts or operations research is highly desired.
  • Strong communication skills across both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Project management experience is helpful but not required.
