Government and Policy Affairs Manager

Job Description

Job Title: Government and Policy Affairs Manager. Location: Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia

You will work within IBM’s Legal and Regulatory Affairs organization to support responsible innovation, protect business interests and build long-term trust with government and industry stakeholders.

Duties:

• Build and maintain senior-level relationships with Australian Government officials and departments.
• Influence national IT and technology policy to support IBM’s business strategy, including quantum technology and AI.
• Engage with industry associations to align policy positions and drive favorable outcomes.
• Monitor government policy developments and assess their impact on IBM’s operations and growth;
• Provide thought leadership on emerging technology trends, including cyber security and quantum-related regulation.
• Collaborate with internal legal, policy, and business teams across IBM globally.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
• Strong understanding of the Australian Government policy-making process.
• Proven experience working directly with government departments, ministers, and regulators.
• Ability to drive outcomes through policy advocacy and strategic engagement;
• Solid understanding of IT technology trends, including quantum computing, AI, and hybrid cloud.
• Excellent communication, relationship-building, and policy development skills.
