Chief Technology Officer (CTO)

Job Description

Job Title: Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Location: Remote (Netherlands)

Responsibilities:

• Define and execute the technical roadmap for quantum-safe hardware and software platforms
• Lead and grow a distributed engineering team across Europe
• Architect and deliver a Dual-Spectrum Security Architecture integrating Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) and Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) technologies
• Drive technical due diligence activities with investors, government agencies, and procurement evaluators
• Collaborate with the Chief Information Security Officer on security architecture responsibilities and compliance boundaries
• Work with intellectual property and patent teams to protect and expand company innovations;
• Represent the company's technical vision to partners, customers, and scientific advisors
• Partner closely with founders to guide technical strategy from pre-seed through future growth stages

Qualifications:

• PhD in Computer Science, Cryptography, Quantum Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field
• At least 5 years of experience in cybersecurity, cryptography, or quantum computing engineering
• Experience in a senior technical leadership position such as CTO, VP Engineering, or similar role
• Deep understanding of classical and post-quantum cryptographic systems;
• Experience building and leading distributed engineering teams
• Proven ability to deliver production-grade security software or hardware products
• Professional fluency in English

Preferred:

• Experience with PQC libraries such as liboqs or Open Quantum Safe
• Familiarity with NIST PQC standards including ML-KEM, ML-DSA, and SLH-DSA (FIPS 203/204/205)
• Experience with QKD hardware systems
• Experience using Rust and/or Python in security-critical environments
• Familiarity with NATO or European defense compliance frameworks
• Experience working with defense, critical infrastructure, or regulated enterprise sectors
• Previous experience at a deep-tech startup from pre-seed through Series A stages
