Data Scientist, Discover Personalization

Job Description

Job Title: Staff Data Scientist, Discover Personalization and Quality. Location: Mountain View, California, New York, New York, USA

Responsibilities:

• Lead analysis and optimization of retrieval and ranking ML systems
• Collaborate with engineering and product teams to improve personalized content delivery
• Identify opportunities through statistical analysis, exploratory analysis, and AI-driven insights
• Maintain ownership of research strategy, execution, and reporting to leadership;
• Build expertise in recommendation and ranking systems while driving cross-functional alignment
• Contribute as both an individual contributor and technical lead for a small data science team
• Use LLM-driven tooling and modern AI technologies to solve complex data science problems

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, Operations Research, Engineering, or related quantitative field
• 8+ years of experience using analytics, statistical analysis, coding, or database querying to solve business or product problems
• Experience with Python, R, SQL, or similar analytical tools
• Strong collaboration and communication skills across technical and product teams
• Ability to work in ambiguous and fast-evolving technical environments

Preferred:

• 10+ years of analytics or data science experience, or 8+ years with a PhD
• Familiarity with machine learning and large language model (LLM) techniques
• Experience working on recommendation, retrieval, or ranking systems;
• Interest in applying scientific approaches to business challenges
• Experience collaborating with data scientists, UX researchers, engineers, and product teams

Benefits and Compensation:

• Base salary range of $207,000 to $300,000 per year
