Experimental Quantum Systems Physicist

Job Description

Job Title: Experimental Quantum Systems Physicist. Location: Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

Responsibilities:

• Push photonic quantum computing hardware to fault-tolerant performance
• Develop and execute classical and non-classical measurements to validate optical quantum computer systems
• Create and verify methods for calibration, self-test, and control of novel quantum photonic systems
• Develop clear and quantitative metrics for quantum performance;
• Collaborate with software and electronics teams to implement procedures and manage experimental data
• Analyse, reduce, and deliver experimental data to inform engineering models for system performance
• Debug complex systems and support failure analysis with engineering teams;
• Communicate validation outcomes broadly and help guide corrective actions

Qualifications:

• Ph.D. or equivalent experience in experimental quantum optics, quantum physics, photonic/electrical engineering, or a related field
• Demonstrated expertise in designing and executing complex quantum experiments in cross-functional environments
• Broad technical knowledge across hardware, software, controls, precision measurement, photonics, and quantum information
• Software development experience for instrumentation, controls, test equipment, and data analysis (Python preferred)
• Proven ability to work effectively across departments, sites, and time zones;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for diverse audiences including technical experts and leadership
• Demonstrated interest in advancing quantum computing and contributing in a fast-paced start-up environment
