Lead Experimental Physicist

Job Description

Job Title: Lead Experimental Physicist - 570. Location: Broomfield, CO, USA; US Remote

You will guide high-impact research programs and help advance scalable quantum systems in collaboration with scientists and engineers across the organization.

Duties:

  • Lead experimental research in a laboratory environment and evaluate quantum hardware prototypes.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data to improve system performance.
  • Review scientific results and define new technical directions for further investigation.
  • Perform design trade studies, simulations, and technical analyses;
  • Present research outcomes internally, at conferences, and through peer-reviewed publications.
  • Develop project plans, schedules, and budgets aligned with company strategy.
  • Manage and mentor cross-functional technical teams delivering complex research projects.

Qualifications:

  • PhD completed before the start date in physics, quantum computing, or a closely related field.
  • At least 8 years of combined PhD and professional experience in quantum computing, atomic physics, laser and optics design, experimental control systems, or electronics design.
  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Strong background in laser cooling and trapping of ions or neutral atoms.
  • Hands-on experience with simulations and modeling to guide experiments;
  • Experience with laser systems, cryogenic systems, and ultra-high vacuum environments.
  • Expertise with electro-optic devices, micro-optical systems, and precision measurement tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with published scientific work.
  • Must be a U.S. Person due to contractual and national security requirements.
