Lead Security Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Lead Security Engineer. Location: Sydney, Australia (Hybrid)

The position requires hands-on cybersecurity expertise with the ability to navigate the unique challenges of securing quantum software systems.

Duties:

• Lead Q-CTRL’s security engineers and advise engineering teams on cybersecurity best practices.
• Build and grow the security team, potentially managing it as it expands;
• Establish security engineering rituals and processes aligned with standards like ISO 27001, NIST 800-171r3, DISP, and Cyber Essentials.
• Serve on the cross-organization Security Team to ensure compliance with regulatory and customer requirements.
• Provide technical guidance on strengthening and monitoring Q-CTRL products across all engineering teams.
• Continuously improve forensics, incident response, and vulnerability management processes;
• Maintain compliance with security frameworks, managing access control, data management, and security guardrails.
• Perform other duties within your skills or with reasonable training.

Qualifications:

• 7+ years of experience as a cybersecurity professional working closely with DevSecOps and DevOps teams.
• Experience hardening Kubernetes platforms, preferably in Amazon Web Services;
• Technical experience with at least one framework such as ISO 27001, SOC 2, NIST, or Essential 8.
• Knowledge of vulnerability management, threat modeling, risk registers, and security incident response.
• Strong collaboration skills with Product Managers, Technical Leads, and Principal Engineers.
• Security/Kubernetes certifications, OSCP, or red teaming experience are a plus;
• Familiarity with open-source observability tools like OpenTelemetry or Grafana, and SIEM/SOC tools such as Splunk or Microsoft Sentinel is desirable.
