Optical Packaging & Assembly Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Optical Packaging & Assembly Engineer. Location: Daresbury, England, United Kingdom

Your work will directly support scalable, high-performance quantum systems designed to reach million-qubit scale and enable real-world quantum applications.

Duties:

• Develop robust optical packages and fibre-to-chip alignment schemes with high precision and scalability.
• Build and evaluate packaging prototypes and scalable assembly processes.
• Review packaging design BOMs and coordinate with supply chain teams to procure required components.
• Transfer and scale successful packaging designs with internal teams and external vendors;
• Work closely with suppliers to source materials and refine evolving packaging requirements.
• Collaborate with external partners on advanced opto-electronic packaging solutions for photonic integrated circuits.

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree or higher in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of experience in PIC packaging design and qualification.
• At least 5 years of experience working with optical fibers and optical measurement systems.
• Experience with FAU or optical connector to chip attachment processes;
• Strong background in optical data analysis and experimental validation.
