Job Description

Job Title: Senior QPU Design Engineer. Location:

• Oxford, England, United Kingdom
• Hybrid, 3 days per week in the Oxford office

Responsibilities:

• Guide chips through the complete design process, from requirements through layout and tape-out.
• Translate operational requirements into chip layout and design features.
• Lay out complex multi-layer chips, including metal-track routing and interfaces with photonics and CMOS.
• Collaborate with scientists to understand requirements and agree on technical specifications.
• Coordinate with other teams to ensure design feasibility and compatibility;
• Independently lead projects and take ownership of final tape-out delivery.
• Solve design and engineering problems throughout the development process.
• Contribute to expanding the range of features supported by quantum processing chips.

Qualifications:

• Experience translating design requirements into practical chip features.
• Hands-on experience with chip layout;
• Experience working across teams and understanding how different parts of a chip influence and constrain one another.
• Experience with complex multi-layer chip layouts, metal-track routing, photonics, and CMOS interfaces.
• Ability to independently drive the design process and take responsibility for delivery.

Preferred:

• Experience with scripted layout generation using GDSFactory in Python or a similar tool.
• Experience using Cadence for IC layout.
• Experience with ion-trap design, photonics design, or IC packaging.
