Job Description

Job Title: R&D Java Developer Backend (f/m/x) for IBM Knowledge Catalog (cloud and on-prem). Location: Ehningen, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany

IBM is seeking an R&D Java Developer Backend to join the IBM Knowledge Catalog team and help develop a trusted data intelligence and governance platform, that enables AI applications across hybrid & cloud environments.

Duties:

• Develop backend components for the IBM Knowledge Catalog using Java and related technologies.
• Work on microservice-based architectures and REST API development;
• Participate in the full software lifecycle including design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
• Collaborate with UX designers, product managers, and architects to co-create technical solutions;
• Build and maintain automated tests using JUnit and continuous integration pipelines with Jenkins.
• Contribute to projects that leverage containerization and orchestration technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Support deployment on IBM Cloud and other environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP;
• Engage in global teamwork with engineers and designers across multiple time zones.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
• Proven experience in object-oriented programming with Java and JUnit test development.
• Understanding of microservice architecture and RESTful API design;
• Familiarity with GitHub or similar version control tools.
• English proficiency at C1 level and German at least A2;
• Preferred: experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), database technologies, Jenkins, and cloud environments.
