Job Description

Job Title: Senior Software Engineering Leader. Location: Berkeley, CA or Fremont, CA

You will work closely with hardware, control systems, and research teams to integrate quantum & classical computing processes into scalable, efficient systems.

Duties:

  • Define and execute software strategies for quantum device design, fabrication data management, and process analysis.
  • Develop frameworks that integrate design, simulation, fabrication, and characterization data into a single automated workflow.
  • Lead and support the creation of modeling tools for electromagnetic and noise simulations informed by real-world physics.:
  • Oversee software for quantum characterization and measurement platforms used across Rigetti’s systems;
  • Design, architect, and maintain scalable data platforms that unify device design, fabrication process data, and system performance metrics.
  • Implement design verification tools such as DRC and LVS checks for quantum devices.
  • Build and lead a cross-functional software engineering team, mentoring engineers, physicists, and data scientists.
  • Promote collaboration between software and hardware teams to accelerate quantum system development;
  • Support the integration of AI and machine learning methods for prediction, modeling, and system optimization.

Qualifications:

  • BS or higher in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Experience building software systems that handle large scientific data sets and scalable pipelines.
  • Strong programming experience with Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript;
  • Proficiency with AWS cloud computing, streaming architectures, and distributed systems.
  • Experience developing tools for quantum device modeling and process analysis.
  • Knowledge of quantum device physics, superconducting qubits, and quantum control hardware.
  • Familiarity with EDA tools, process design kits, and chip layout software like KLayout or Cadence;
  • Experience with machine learning and scientific computing libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, or PyTorch is preferred.

  • Salary range: $250,000–$290,000 per year, depending on experience and location.
