Job Description
Job Title: Service Engineer II. Location: Burnaby, BC, Canada
You will work closely with R&D and hardware teams to enhance reliability, serviceability, and system design; This role suits someone who enjoys solving complex engineering problems and collaborating across disciplines in a fast-moving environment.
Duties:
- Build, install, and upgrade quantum systems at D-Wave’s facilities and partner sites.
- Perform hands-on troubleshooting and maintenance of cryogenic and electromechanical systems.
- Collaborate with hardware and R&D teams to improve system reliability and service workflows.
- Develop and refine service, maintenance, and incident response procedures;
- Work closely with partners and host facilities to ensure smooth system operations.
- Participate in on-call rotation to support production systems;
- Travel occasionally (up to 10%) to customer or field sites across North America and Europe.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- At least two years of hands-on experience maintaining and improving electro-mechanical systems in a lab or production setting.
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of Python, C, or C++ programming for automation or diagnostics;
- Ability to troubleshoot complex technical systems and communicate effectively in English.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Valid passport and ability to travel internationally;
- Team-oriented, adaptable, and able to work independently when needed.
Desired:
- Experience with cryogenic or high-vacuum systems.
- Understanding of IT infrastructure, networking, and Linux or UNIX systems.
- Knowledge of PLC logic, P&IDs, or control systems.
- Eligible for EIT or P.Eng. registration with EGBC;
- Prior experience providing technical support or working in product development.
Benefits and Instructions:
- Base salary range: $79,040–$118,560 CAD per year, depending on experience and proficiency.
