System & Board Design Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: System and Board Design Engineer (f/m/x). Location: Ehningen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Job Type: Entry Level (Hybrid, Regular Position)

The role focuses on developing and validating high-performance mainboards and PCB cards for IBM’s flagship platforms; You will collaborate with teams in the U.S., Israel, and India using Agile and Design Thinking to drive innovation and continuous improvement.

Duties:

• Design and layout complex digital and analog circuits for high-performance computing and quantum hardware.
• Model and simulate high-frequency signal integrity across boards and systems;
• Define design rules, materials, and processes for reliable PCB development.
• Ensure power integrity and stable power distribution across multi-layer boards.
• Create and validate single and multi-chip modules for IBM processors.
• Automate design workflows, tools, and measurement methods for greater efficiency;
• Support hardware bring-up, prototype validation, and issue resolution through data-driven analysis.
• Collaborate closely with global teams in hardware development, fabrication, and testing.

Qualifications:

• Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field.
• Knowledge of signal integrity, power integrity, and circuit design (digital and analog);
• Familiarity with PCB technologies, materials, and CAD tools such as Cadence, Synopsys, Mentor Graphics, Altium, or Eagle.
• Programming experience with Python for automation and data processing.
• Understanding of quantum hardware systems or control electronics is an advantage.
• Strong communication skills in English; German is a plus;
• Self-motivated with a collaborative mindset and strong problem-solving ability.
