Job Description
Job Title: R&D Engineer. Location: Daresbury, England, United Kingdom
The engineer will support the team roadmap by contributing to experimental design, analysis, and reporting while working closely with cross-functional teams.
Duties:
- Design and build experimental stations for photon pair generation and single-photon measurements.
- Conduct nonlinear optical and photonics experiments, including data acquisition and analysis.
- Develop and maintain control routines and software for experimental setups;
- Select specialized equipment and coordinate use of existing lab tools.
- Perform simulations to support photon source design and experimental planning.
- Generate technical reports and document experimental findings;
- Collaborate with other teams to help develop tests involving single-photon components.
- Prioritize work in alignment with team goals and contribute to roadmap planning.
- Anticipate testing needs, clarify priorities, and support IP protection activities.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experimental experience in quantum optics or nonlinear optics.
- Proven ability to design and manage photonics or nonlinear optics experiments.
- Experience writing control software, ideally in Python, and using modeling tools like Mathematica.
- Strong background in applied physics and computational thinking;
- Experience with laser systems, fiber optics, single-photon detection, and cryogenic equipment.
- Knowledge of quantum and nonlinear optics theory, quantum information, and photonics testing.
- Ability to manage projects, lead technical tasks, and support team development.
