Job Description

Job Title: Staff Technical Program Manager. Location: Boston, Massachusetts, United States

This role sits at the center of hardware, software, and research teams and focuses on moving advanced quantum technologies from early development into future products; You will guide complex programs, align teams around shared goals, and ensure critical milestones are delivered on time and at scale.

Duties:

  • Lead and coordinate technology development and integration programs aligned with product and business goals.
  • Drive execution across cross-functional teams working on quantum hardware systems and core technologies.
  • Identify technical risks early and define mitigation plans to keep programs on track;
  • Ensure teams have clear architectures, design plans, and test strategies to meet delivery timelines.
  • Manage schedules, budgets, resources, and dependencies across multiple programs;
  • Provide situational leadership by removing blockers, setting priorities, and guiding teams through critical phases.
  • Communicate program status, risks, and progress clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Support integration of lower-TRL technologies into future IonQ product lines.

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience as a Technical Program Manager leading complex, hardware-focused programs.
  • Advanced degree in Physics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with experience managing cross-functional teams;
  • Familiarity with quantum computing concepts, principles, and system-level technologies.
  • Experience using project management tools such as Jira, Confluence, GitHub, Microsoft Project, or SmartSheet.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environments while managing multiple programs simultaneously.
  • PMP or similar project management certification is a plus;
  • U.S. Person status required due to export control and government contract restrictions.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20 percent to College Park, MD or Bothell, WA.

Benefits and Instructions:

  • Base salary range: $141,670 to $185,482, plus bonus and equity.
  • Compensation varies based on location, skills, and experience.

  • This role is onsite in Boston, MA.
